A CSIRO solar thermal test plant in Newcastle, Australia, has generated “supercritical” steam at a pressure of 23.5 MPa (3400 psi) and 570°C (1,058°F). "It's like breaking the sound barrier; this step change proves solar has the potential to compete with the peak performance capabilities of fossil fuel sources," Said Dr Alex Wonhas, CSIRO’s Energy Director. This solar water wheel could be the solution to plastic ocean debris
In Baltimore, a giant water wheel is collecting the trash which enters the river from the storm drains. Design for organic skyscraper built out of garbage generated by occupants
Chartier-Corbasson Architectes propose a tower for London that grows as needed with its walls built from the garbage generated by its occupants and by construction sites in the neighborhood. The structure is built out of short tubular elements, so no crane is needed. It is modelled on the scaffolding that one sees on the exterior of buildings in Asia. Buying fresh and local has health benefits as well as environmental ones!
The fresher produce is, the more nutrients it has. By buying locally, you’ll minimize the amount of time wasted between harvest and consumption, and optimize the nutritional value for your body. The produce is fresher and usually has not been subjected to irradiation (getting zapped by radiation to kill germs), wax coatings, or prolonged refrigeration. Modular bamboo tent hotel stacks up vertically!
Vienna and Beijing based design collective Penda have created the "One With the Birds" tent hotel, which uses a modular form of bamboo construction that can be stacked up vertically or spread out horizontally. Penda say "The structure could grow as tall as the trees. We can experience a forest from the perspective of a child climbing a tree, in between the treetops, with the birds ."
