The author and environmentalist Bill McKibben has written extensively on climate change. His first book on the subject, The End of Nature, came out in 1989, so he has been shining a light on climate change for many years.
Besides the many books he has written, he has been published in numerous magazines. The most recent magazine article he penned, “Global Warming’s Terrifying New Math,” appeared in the July 19, 2012 issue of Rolling Stone.
Besides his writing endeavors, he founded and runs the international environmental organization 350.org. The goal of 350.org is to build a global grassroots movement to raise awareness of climate change, to confront climate change denial and to cut emissions of carbon dioxide in order to slow the rate of global warming.
350.org takes its name from the research of NASA scientist James E. Hansen who said that 350 parts-per-million (PPM) of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is a safe upper limit to avoid a climate tipping point.
Bill McKibben is a Quantum Revolutionary, as he is someone who through the force of his ideas and his actions is making a difference. In 2010, the Boston Globe called him “probably the nation’s leading environmentalist.” In 2009, Foreign Policy magazine named him to its inaugural listof the 100 most important global thinkers, and MSN named him one of the dozen most influential men of 2009.
In the above video, watch Bill McKibben be interviewed on the subject of climate change by Bill Maher, on a recent edition of Bill Maher’s TV show.
