I sat down not too long ago with Karenna Gore, the Director of the Center for Earth Ethics at Union Theological Seminary, an environmental activist, the author of the book, "Lighting the Way: 9 Women Who Shaped Modern America," and the daughter of the former Vice-President Al Gore, for my [Read more...]
According to The A-list, the recent US-China joint announcement on climate change and energy is the most important advance for many years. China has agreed a clear target to reach a peak of CO2 emissions no later than 2030, with the intention of trying to peak earlier than 2030. The US’s failure to act decisively on its own emissions for two decades has long been defended by the Senate on the basis that the US should act only if China does as … [Read more...]
World carbon dioxide pollution levels in the atmosphere are accelerating and reached a record high in 2012, the U.N. weather agency said last Wednesday. The heat-trapping gas, pumped into the air by cars and smokestacks, was measured at 393.1 parts per million last year, up 2.2 ppm from the previous year, said the Geneva-based World Meteorological Organization in its annual greenhouse gas inventory. That is far beyond the 350 ppm that some … [Read more...]
When looking into the big, docile eyes of the domestic cow, it is hard to imagine that something sinister lurks beneath the surface. That is, until they burp. Cows are prolific producers of methane, a greenhouse gas that is 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide at the same volume. In an effort to help curb global warming, a team of researchers at the University of Aberdeen in the UK, is looking to see whether changing the diet or genetic … [Read more...]
Courtesy of: Loch Ness Water Gardens How much water do you use (and how much water can you save)? Check the above infographic to see, and then consider this: We all know of the concept of peak oil, the understanding that there is only a finite amount of oil, and that one day it will peak and then begin to taper off. But there may be a bigger problem with water, and it's … [Read more...]
The news is in, and it is telling: 2012 was the warmest year on record in the lower 48 states of the U.S. This is big news, and a clear sign that our world is continuing to experience the effects of climate change/global warming. Back in Oct., we featured an article about the work of Bill McKibben, one of the country's leading advocates for doing something about climate change, and we showed a video clip with Bill McKibben talking with Bill … [Read more...]
"We find ourselves ethically destitute just when, for the first time, we are faced with ultimacy, the irreversible closing down of the earth's functioning in its major life systems. Our ethical traditions know how to deal with suicide, homicide, and even genocide; but these traditions collapse entirely when confronted with biocide, the extinction of the vulnerable life systems of the Earth, and geocide, the devastation of the Earth itself...The … [Read more...]

With the U.S. presidential election just a few days away - next Tuesday, Nov. 6 - we all know everything we need to know about the two major party candidates running. But what do you know about one of the other candidates running, Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein?
Did you know that Jill Stein and her running mate … [Read more...]
With Hurricane Sandy barreling down on the east coast of the U.S., many climate experts are pointing to the fact that Hurricane Sandy is a result of climate change. Many meteorologists say Sandy could be the largest storm ever to hit the U.S. mainland. Bill McKibben, who we featured recently on the Quantum Revolution website, when he talked with Bill Maher about climate change, was interviewed on the Democracy Now! radio/TV show on Monday, Oct. … [Read more...]
