Seattle is leading the way by developing the nation’s first ‘food forest’ filled with hundreds of edible plants, free to anyone and everyone.
Volunteers have carved the Beacon Food Forest public garden from two acres of Seattle Public Utilities. According to seattlepi.com the community-driven project has designed the space to look like a two-dimensional DNA helix from overhead with its rows of plants. The Beacon Food Forest’s mission is described as building community around sharing food.
