Each device can detect chainsaw noises up to 1 kilometer in the distance, and according to staff at Rainforest Connection, each solar-powered microphone can protect up to 300 hectares of endangered rainforest!
The devices were tested in Sumatra in 2013, and they were able to detect and stop loggers within just two weeks of installation.
