With the presidential election behind us, we as a people are at a precipice. The popular vote went one way and the electoral college another, and as a result Donald Trump will be the next president of the U.S.
People are hurting on both sides of the equation: those who voted for Trump feel the sting of an economy and world that is leaving them behind, and feel that they live in an America they no longer recognize. People who voted against Trump are angry that a man who has incited the shadow side of so many people – witness the racist, anti-semitic, misogynistic, and islamophobic words and acts that have arisen – has been elected. For those against Trump, they feel they live in an America they no longer recognize.
How can we bridge the gap between these two sides, before we embark on a civil war that will tear apart the fabric of America? How can we hear each other better? How can we assure that the incoming Trump administration doesn’t cause irreparable harm? How can we inspire the better angels of our nature and restore a true democracy to America? How can we use this as an opportunity to evolve to a higher level of awareness?
This is the great healing that needs to be done.
In the aftermath of the election, I decided it would be helpful to organize an event, so that we can come together in a group setting and discuss these issues. I will facilitate and lead the discussion.
This event takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Saratoga Springs Public Library, Saratoga Springs, NY.
