Bill McKibben on Climate Change and Hurricane Sandy

With Hurricane Sandy barreling down on the east coast of the U.S., many climate experts are pointing to the fact that Hurricane Sandy is a result of climate change. Many meteorologists say Sandy could be the largest storm ever to hit the U.S. mainland.

Bill McKibben
, who we featured recently on the Quantum Revolution website, when he talked with Bill Maher about climate change, was interviewed on the Democracy Now! radio/TV show on Monday, Oct. 29, talking about climate change as it pertains to Hurricane Sandy. You can watch the video above.

McKibben says that, “It’s really important that everybody, even those who aren’t in the kind of path of this storm, reflect about what it means that in the warmest year in U.S. history, … in a year when we saw, essentially, summer sea ice in the Arctic just vanish before our eyes, what it means that we’re now seeing storms of this unprecedented magnitude. If there was ever a wake-up call, this is it.”

Climate change is real, and it needs to be dealt with in a serious manner – this is the most important issue facing humanity. We cannot continue to keep our heads in the sand on this. Even if Hurricane Sandy doesn’t live up to expectations, there will be more extreme weather to come.
