“When leaders develop the capacity to come near to the source, they experience the future as if it is wanting to be born.” – Otto Scharmer
Change is in the air, and the potential for a transformational shift towards a more holistic and sustainable society and world is within the realm of possibilities.
But it won’t happen just by us hoping it will happen. There are certain proactive steps we need to take in order to see us move forward.
On Thursday, May 31 at 7pm at the META Center, 214 W. 29th St., 16th Floor, in New York City, I will be talking about one specific proactive step: Presencing. This will occur at my talk, “The Quantum Revolution: Presencing the Revolution.” You can learn more about the talk and register by going to the Events page.
Presencing is a concept that may at first be a little challenging to wrap the mind around, but the more you understand it, both intellectually and experientially, the more it makes sense.
Presencing is a term that brings together the words “pre-sensing” and “presence.” It means to pre-sense and bring into presence one’s highest future potential. Every human being and social system has the potential to activate this deeper capacity. Presencing can connect us more deeply both to what wants to emerge in the world and to our emerging, higher self.
Albert Einstein once said that if he had one hour to solve a problem and come up with an answer, he would spend the first 59 minutes formulating the question, and once he had the question, the answer would automatically come. That’s what presencing is: it is the ability to form the cognition to know on a deep level what the answer is, by understanding what exactly it is that you are looking for.
In analytical logic, it is said that the best predictor of the present and future is the past. But in the case of presencing, which is based on a logic predicated on Quantum laws, the best predictor of the present (and past) is the future.
That may sound a little mind-boggling, but just let it ruminate through your mind and body, and hold a space for what it means.
When you enter into the realm of presencing, you become aware of a future seeking to emerge, which implies that the future has intentionality. It is also about bringing into presence and into the present your highest potential, your highest future possibility as a human being, and the highest potential for society and the world.
Presencing also implies a deep knowing, knowing what is right, and what is true. Your highest future possibility is related to your own highest purpose or intention. In exploring your future potential it’s intimately connected with your evolving, authentic Self. This evolving future field can be experienced as a being that is looking at you.
Another thing presencing implies is that the answers are already out there, in the field of the future, and it’s just a matter of feeling, sensing, knowing and grasping them.
All discoveries, scientific or creative, are not really discoveries, as they already existed before their so-called “discovery.” It was just a matter of the person or people discovering them developing the capacity of deep knowing and presencing, which then allowed them to understand what they were seeing. That is why many scientific and creative discoveries come to people like lightening bolts, out of the blue, sometimes during the day and sometimes in dreams.
And so, the more we develop the tool of presencing, the more we can see and understand – and then create by putting into action – the type of society we want to live in: a more holistic, sustainable and open one.
This is what the Quantum Revolution can bring forth, and this is what we can all do together.
