Last week, I posted an interview I did with Lisa Smartt, the author of the book “Words at the Threshold: What We Say As We’re Nearing Death,” for my Interviews with the Leading Edge video interview series.

Along with being the author of her groundbreaking book, Lisa is also the director of the Final Words Project, which is a research study that examines the words spoken by people on their deathbed.
The Final Words Project is an ongoing study devoted to collecting and interpreting the mysterious language at the end of lives, and has a lot to tell us about life, death, the nature of reality, and consciousness.
Her background as a linguist, educator and poet, and as a close collaborator with Raymond Moody, the pioneering physician whose research on near death experiences helped explain the phenomena of the near death experience, gives Lisa the right background and training to dig deep into this fascinating area that has such far-reaching implications .
One of the things Lisa and I talked about was what happens to consciousness when a person passes away. In the short video clip above, which is excerpted from the full interview, Lisa talks about what the final words said by people tell us about the survival of consciousness.
How is it that people can come out of comas, right before their death, to share pertinent facts or to tell others that they love them? Consciousness and the mind do live on, even after death, and this is the paradigm-shifting and ground breaking work that Lisa Smartt is uncovering with her Final Words project.
