Russian cross-country skier Anton Gafarov fell and broke his ski during the Men’s Sprint Free Semifinals.
In true Olympic spirit he kept going, knowing that with half a ski he would end up limping across the finish line in front of the world and his home crowd.
From out of nowhere, Canadian ski coach Justin Wadsworth ran down to Gafarov’s aid. He not only gave Gafarov a new ski, but took the broken ski from him and snapped him into the borrowed one, allowing Gafarov to finish the race with dignity.
