I sat down not too long ago with Andrew Cohen, the founder of Evolutionary Enlightenment, the former editor-in-chief of EnlightenNext magazine, the author of seven books, and the former spiritual leader of a community known as EnlightenNext, with centers in seven countries, for my Interviews with the Leading Edge video interview series.
Andrew has been a spiritual teacher for over 30 years, and over that time Andrew has been a different kind of teacher. He was fearless, taking aim at the sacred cows of the spiritual world and sweeping aside trite New Age thinking. His integration of postmodern cultural and scientific understanding with non-dual Advaita teachings had instant appeal to sophisticated westerners. They were drawn by his transmission, and sought to live by his evolving philosophy.
There is also controversy that encircles Andrew. Over its few decades of existence, the EnlightenNext community became an audacious experiment in consciousness that facilitated remarkable leaps in collective maturity. Yet simultaneously it was caught in a vortex of cultish behaviors that ultimately led to its collapse in 2013.
Andrew was totally frank and transparent during our interview about the collapse of EnlightenNext and what precipitated it to occur. In the interview, he also examines the traditional guru model and why that is no longer relevant for our present time. In addition during the interview, Andrew talks about his teachings of evolutionary enlightenment and its relevancy.

To get there, the concept of evolutionary enlightenment and Andrew’s teachings can be a path and road map for showing us the way to awaken to a more promising world ahead.
